Spikes of blue, sometimes pink or white emerge from the forest floor in early summer.
Lupins enjoy cool temperatures in moist undisturbed soil.
The Lupin is named after the wolf (lat.-lupus) because these plants were once thought to exhaust the nutrients from the soil. Like other members of the pea family however, Lupins actually take nitrogen from the air and add it to the soil.
